Ethernet, in computer science, a local area network (LAN) system developed by the Xerox corporation in 1976, originally for linking minicomputers at the Palo Alto Research Center. A widely implemented network from which computer industry standards for networks were developed, Ethernet uses a bus configuration and relies on the form of access known as CSMA/CD to regulate traffic on the main communication line. The relationship with Nortel dates back to 1985 when the then Northern Telecom required a UK/European cabling partner to supply cables for Nortel DPN X25 packet switching equipment. Since that time, Cablelink have continued to expand the range of cables manufactured and supplied for Nortel’s systems; thus we now have a range of over 300 cable assemblies which we manufacture and supply for various Nortel data and voice switching systems.
